Law Amendments Committee holds public hearings on OHV billNovember 22, 2005The government's Law Amendments Committee has been holding public hearings on Bill 275 to amend the Off Highway Vehicles Act in Nova Scotia. Environmentalists are urging the provincial government to better protect wilderness areas and sensitive ecosystems like beaches and wetlands from the recreational use of all-terrain vehicles. Private landowners are asking for improved protection of private property. And doctors are demanding that children under 16 be banned from using ATVs. The Tory government and ATV groups are dismissing most of their concerns and fighting against regulations recommended by the province's OHV Taskforce. The all-party Law Amendments Committee is tasked with preparing the final legilation.
