Public Walks on Public Lands

October 26, 2004

The Ecology Action Centre and the Nova Scotia Public Lands Coalition would like to thank all our hike leaders and our participants for making the 3rd Annual Public Hikes Series a success.

The five hikes and public meeting saw over 200 participants.

Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes

Proposed Blue Mountain / Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area

Special thanks to our guide
Chris Miller of the Birch Cove Wilderness Society. Over 60 of us, worked our way to the 500' summit of Blue Mountain. There we enjoyed a panoramic view of the Chebucto Peninsula, while raising concern over the proposed route of Highway 113.

A special thanks to Peter Romkey of the Woodens River Watershed Environmental Organization. The Fall Colours were spectacular along the Bluff Trail around Pot Lake.

Keshen Goodman Public Library

Great thanks to our 4 guest speakers and over 50 participants. Participants signed petitions and submitted comments on the Proposed Highway 113 construction. Our efforts persuaded the Minister of the Environment to request a "Focus Report" and delay the project.
