Environment Minister says more sites to be protectedFebruary 22, 2003On Wednesday, Feburary 21st the Daily Issues reported that Environment Minister Ron Russell said that the Hamm government is getting ready to add more sites to the province's list of Protected Areas. The Minister and Deputy Premier was quoted as saying "If we don't continue on with the program, then future generations of Nova Scotians are going to suffer a tremendous loss." Mr. Russell said he doesn't know how many new areas will be protected, but his department is looking at two or three candidate sites very closely. "I'm expecting that sometime this year we'll be announcing" he said. This is the first good news to come out of the Tory government since they took office four years ago. Let's hope that they're sincere this time and will finally deliver some meaningful and long over-due wilderness protection to the people of this province.
